We got into Kyoto yesterday in the pouring rain about lunchtime. The rain didn't stop us from going to the Nijo Castle & getting tickets for the Imperial Palace tour the next day. We couldn't let a little rain stop us, since our time is limited & it really isn't that cold. It's in the 70's, kind of like summer in Seattle. Today we went to Nishiki Market, which is like a farmers market, the Imperial Palace & several temples. They say in Kyoto there are so many temples you can get templed out. We bought a combined bus subway pass for $1,200 yen ($12) and figured out how to get around pretty good, although our last connection took us a while to get from the bus stop to the train station. (Guess who's fault that was.) However, the last slow connection was fortunate, because on JR (Japan Rail) subway, we ran into Linda Suyama. She was in Kyoto to visit & help take care of her in-laws. She travels to Japan regularly for her art gallery. Tomorrow we head to Hiroshima. We have internet in our room so if you want to make contact, do it in the next by 9:00 Kyoto time on October 16.

cool pictures! what are those things in the barrels?
That was in the Nishiki market. The things in the barrels were various pickled vegtables, like the appetizers you usually get.
We just got into Hiroshima. I'll put some pictures of the Peace Park tonight.
