Last night we got into Tokyo about 6:00 pm after a 10 hour plane ride & a bus ride from the airport to the hotel. Our first meal was a restaurant that only served ramen. It was made with fresh noodles & had two kinds of pork, cabbage and an egg. It was something that I was looking forward too & I really enjoyed it. Although after having ramen two more times today, I'm ready to eat something else. This morning we got up at 5:30, which wasn't hard since we were still on Seattle time, and then went to the Tsukiji Fish market. It's a real working wholesale market with forklifts buzzing around that you really have to watch out for so you don't get run over. We didn't see any fish since they were boxed up for delivery to stores & restaurants. They don't sell the fish retail. There were a lot of sushi restaurants, but we didn't feel like eating that at 8:00 am. We learned how to get around on the subway pretty quick, but the tough part is once you are in the station, figuring out where to go & where to find your line & which exit to get out. The stations are several city blocks. They are full of shops & restaurants. We ate breakfast & lunch in the stations, since we couldn't find much out on the street where we were. After the fish market, we went to the Imperial Palace. You can't tour the palace, only walk around the grounds. The plance is only open a couple of times a year. Then we went to Uneo Park, which has several museums, a zoo, an amusement park & a shrine. It's the largest park in Tokyo. After a rest at the hotel, we went to Shijuku Station in search of a yarn store. We didn't find the one that someone from Ruth's knitting class told her about, but we did find one, that had at least 6 floors of knitting & sewing goods. Fortunately, Ruth didn't really buy too much. We still have two more full days in Tokyo. For dinner tonight we went to a Korean barbecue place, kind of like Shabushan. We haven't had sushi yet, so I plan to have that tomorrow. I ordered wonton soup with barbecue pork for lunch, but it really turned out to be ramen. So, we'll still have to find a Chinese restaurant in Japan.
